Album : HUMBLESMITH RETURNS TO HIS ROOTS WITH NEW EP, MR. MELODY

 

Nigerian singer and songwriter Humblesmith returns with his new EP, MR. MELODY – BACK TO THE ROOTS, a deeply personal project that reconnects him with the sounds, culture and experiences that shaped his musical identity.

The six-track project is more than a collection of songs. It is a story of heritage, resilience, loss, healing and rediscovery.

Growing up in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, Humblesmith was surrounded by music. His grandfather was a choir master, his mother had a distinctive singing voice and his father filled their home with music. His mother taught him the first song he ever sang, laying the foundation for a journey that would eventually take him from Abakaliki to Onitsha, Asaba and Lagos.

In 2011, long before the recognition, Humblesmith invested his own resources to launch his first project, Humblesmith Evolution. The concert hall was almost empty, with his family becoming his audience. Yet he performed as though thousands were watching, a moment that became a lasting symbol of his belief in his dream.

His music later reached wider audiences during the Osinachi era, establishing his signature blend of melody, emotion and African storytelling. But behind the success came years of label challenges, unreleased projects, broken plans and personal sacrifices.

Then, on 15 March 2025, Humblesmith lost his mother, the woman who taught him his first song and represented one of the deepest roots of his musical identity.

Through grief and reflection, 2026 became a year of healing and rediscovery. Humblesmith found his way back to the melody he had carried since childhood.

That journey became MR. MELODY – BACK TO THE ROOTS.

Drawing from Highlife, Afropop, Makossa and African storytelling, the EP combines nostalgia with contemporary production. “ASO’OKE” celebrates African heritage and identity; “JEALOUSY” revisits the rich melodies of the Osinachi era; while “PRESSURE” channels the infectious spirit of Makossa. “BABY FIRE,” “BOLINGO,” and “MOMENT” complete a project exploring love, culture, movement and reflection.

The project was brought to life with the creative partnership of producer Darlington Chinemerem Otti, popularly known as Dalorbeats, who worked closely with Humblesmith to translate the vision of returning to his musical roots into a fresh, contemporary sound.

MR. MELODY – BACK TO THE ROOTS is not an attempt to recreate the past. It is a return to the essence of who Humblesmith has always been
