The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has intensified efforts to safeguard the nation’s telecommunications infrastructure through renewed collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, following a high-level meeting between both institutions in Abuja.

The Chairman of the NCC Board, Idris Olorunnimbe, alongside the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Commission, Aminu Maida, paid a working visit to the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, at the Force Headquarters, Louis Edet House.

The meeting focused on strengthening inter-agency cooperation to enhance the protection of critical telecommunications infrastructure across the country, amid rising concerns over vandalism and security threats.

Central to the discussions was the ongoing implementation of the Presidential Order designating telecommunications assets as Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII), a move aimed at ensuring their protection under Nigerian law.

Both parties emphasised the importance of a coordinated approach in addressing threats to telecom facilities, noting that disruptions to communication networks have far-reaching implications for national security, economic stability, and public safety.

The NCC leadership reiterated its commitment to working closely with security agencies to ensure that telecom operators can deliver uninterrupted services nationwide.

On his part, the Inspector-General of Police assured of the Force’s readiness to support the Commission in enforcing the CNII directive and tackling crimes targeting telecom infrastructure.

The meeting underscores growing collaboration between regulatory and security institutions as Nigeria seeks to strengthen its security architecture and protect critical assets vital to national development.
